Bridesmaids star Melissa McCarthy has attracted a lot of attention as she has lost 95lb as a part of her wellness journey over the past few years, and revealed that stopping herself from "over-thinking" it all was one of the changes that helped her the most.
However, another part of her beauty and wellness routine has flown under the radar, as she revealed that she has an unusual sleeping arrangement at her two California homes, where she lives with her husband of 20 years, Ben Falcone. When she has been on a photoshoot or made an appearance on a red carpet, she takes a different approach to her bedtime routine.
During an interview with People in 2023, she explained: "There's two versions of me. If I'm taking off my [make-up], I do all my good stuff and the hot towel and the whole thing. If I come [with a full face of make-up], this is how I go to bed," and crossed her arms.
"I go to bed like a corpse," the Mike and Molly star continued. "I lie back, and I wake up the next morning, and I'm like, 'Good for me, I can sleep and not move."
However, she explained that her make-up artist does not at all approve of this ritual, as it can lead to clogged pores and breakouts, adding: "My make-up [artist] is like, 'Oh, that's not good. You should wash it all off.' I'm like, 'Look at what you did today. I can't do this.' So I sleep like an absolute corpse, and I wake up, and I go and look in the mirror, and it's like, 'That's a full lash, girl.' It's a full lash on a Tuesday."
Melissa McCarthy's wellness journey
The actress has been incredibly open about the wellness journey she has been on in recent years, where she has been putting her health first. She has lost 95 lbs, but explained that the key to her health, after years of yo-yo dieting, has been to stop "worrying" continuously about her weight.
"I finally said [to myself], ‘Oh, for God’s sake, stop worrying about it,', and it may be the best thing I’ve ever done," she said during an appearance on CBS Mornings. "I truly stopped worrying about [my weight]. I stopped over-analyzing, over-thinking, over-doing anything.
"I just stopped constantly being worried about it, and I think there’s something to kinda loosening up and not being so nervous and rigid about it that, bizarrely, has worked," she concluded.
Melissa had tried many measures in the past, including a four-month-long all-liquid diet, which was supervised by doctors. "I'd never do that again," she revealed in an interview with People in 2023. "I felt starved and crazy half the time."
