Crown Prince Haakon's statement ahead of stepson's trial

Crown Prince Haakon has shared a message ahead of the upcoming trial of his stepson, Marius Borg Høiby, who was charged with 32 offences in August last year, including four counts of rape.

In a press release, the heir to the Norwegian throne wrote: "Our thoughts are with everyone who is affected by this case. It has an impact on the individuals, their families and all those who care about them. We understand that this is a difficult time for many of you, and we sympathise.

"At the same time, it is reassuring to know that we live in a state governed by the rule of law. I am confident that those responsible for overseeing the proceedings will ensure that the trial is conducted in as orderly, proper, and just a manner as possible.

"Marius Borg Høiby is not a member of the Royal House of Norway and is therefore autonomous. We care about him, and he is an important member of our family. He is a citizen of Norway and, as such, has the same responsibilities as everyone else — as well as the same rights."

Did you know?

Did you know that Princess Anne and King Charles III both have unusual lunchtime habits?

HELLO! spoke exclusively to celebrated chef Michael Mercer, who has previously cooked for Princess Anne. He revealed that after preparing a complete banquet for the 75-year-old, Anne sipped on a cup of Earl Grey tea, before very politely giving the chef her thanks and making her way out. Fortunately, the food did not go to waste, as her security team tucked into the meal on her behalf.

Meanwhile, Charles has been known to skip lunchtime meals. Back in 2018, in a list of 70 facts about the then Prince Charles, released by Clarence House to commemorate his 70th birthday, the 20th fact was: "The Prince does not eat lunch."

Royal rapper?

The Princess Royal has no intention of expanding her musical repertoire to include rap! During a conversation with Bhishma Asare, who received an MBE for his services to education and mental health awareness after forming Rap Therapy, Anne was offered the chance to learn how to rap.

The English teacher at the Royal Russell School in Croydon recalled his conversation with the royal: "I was explaining the process and saying that we get children to write about a specific emotion, to explicitly mention that emotion so they can decipher those feelings. Then I said to her, 'Maybe I could teach you to rap?'"

According to Bhishma, she replied in her usual no-nonsense fashion: "She said she used to sing and that is about it. She kind of declined and said her time is up."
