King Charles' struggles with 'subtropical' home
While we patiently await the royal outings happening today, we are taking a look at King Charles' home on the Sandringham estate.
When King Charles stays at Sandringham House on his 20,000-acre Norfolk estate, he occupies a manor known for its beauty but also for one notoriously uncomfortable space.
In his 2023 memoir Spare, Prince Harry likened the Sandringham dining room to "Dante's Inferno," describing its temperature as "subtropical" compared to the rest of the mild house. This intense heat was a preference of the late Queen Elizabeth II. Harry recalled how he or his father would secretly try to open a window, only for the Queen's whimpering corgis to alert her to the draft. A footman would then promptly slam the window shut, a sound Harry compared to a jail cell door closing.

The royal instead enjoyed a soft drink.
