Prince William's role as heir to the throne is a very important one, attending engagements up and down the country, embarking on tours overseas and handing out honours at royal investitures. On Tuesday, the Prince and Princess of Wales' social media team decided to share a totally fresh perspective on what goes on behind the scenes of an investiture – and royal fans were blown away.
The heartwarming and moving video clip was shared to their 17.2 million followers, and instead of focusing on the important people receiving the honours, it showcased the raw emotions of their loved ones, watching the special moment unfold. This is the first time that we've been able to really see the perspective that the royals have, seeing the joy on people's faces as their nearest and dearest are awarded.
Fans adored the fresh take on the regular ceremony, and they made that clear with their comments. "Ohhh I love this. What pride they show. Tears in my eyes," penned one fan, and: "Lovely! You can really feel the effort and emotion behind this moment, so special to see." A third added: "Such a joy to see people's faces meeting Prince William. Such an honour and a moment forever. Beautiful. Prince William, you are so, so loved." Many of whom also shared emojis showing a welled up expression.
Tuesday's honours
Among the people receiving honours today was television writer Sir Roy Clarke, who has been made a Knight Bachelor, which recognises services to entertainment. Plus, Prince William and Princess Kate's nanny, Maria Turrion Borallo, has also received the Royal Victorian Media in silver. The silver Royal Victorian Medal is an honour awarded by the King for loyal service to the monarch or royal family. This differs from the honours given to sportspeople and actors, who often receive MBEs and knighthoods. Unlike many other honours, it is purely down to the monarch to decide who receives it, rather than being granted on the advice of government ministers or overseen by independent committees.
The Spanish nanny, who was trained at the prestigious Norland College in Bath, has worked with the Wales family since 2014. We've seen her at many high-profile events, there to be a helping hand with the royal children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven. Though Maria doesn't live at Forest Lodge with the Wales family, she is very much involved with family life. Norland nannies are also responsible for a range of different things, everything from making breakfast and school pick-ups through to helping with homework.
