Prince William goes through all the emotions as he cheers on Aston Villa during surprise appearance at the football

The team took an early lead, with the future King celebrating as they eventually scored four goals. 

William was seen punching the air as he watched on from the stands. 

At the start of the game, William appeared more serene, but quickly got into the swing of things!

He couldn't hold back his emotions as he celebrated their goal, embracing his fellow onlookers in a hug. 

Ollie Watkins, Emi Buendia and John McGinn were the star goal-scorers. 

William greeted John McGinn prior to the match. 

The players were given a royal round of applause for their efforts.

The game has very high stakes as the winner of the Europa League will seal a place in next season's prestigious Champions League – and William was clearly feeling the pressure.

Prince William has been an Aston Villa fan for years, and is often seen supporting the Birmingham-based club. 

Explaining why he chose the team to support, he told Gary Lineker back in 2015: "A long time ago at school, I got into football big time. I was looking around for clubs. All my friends at school were either Man United fans or Chelsea fans and I didn't want to follow the run-of-the-mill teams."

"I wanted to have a team that was more mid-table that could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments. Aston Villa's always had a great history."

He first watched the team play in person, aged 17, when a family friend took him to a game.

His son, Prince George, 12, appears to be following in his footsteps but William revealed last May that Prince Louis, eight, "supports about five different football teams".

George did not appear to be present for the game on Thursday.
