Bing Crosby found fame from the '30s onwards, and is now a regular crooner at Christmas

Who is Bing Crosby?

Born on 3 May 1903, Bing Crosby found fame as a singer and actor, starring in musicals like White Christmas with Rosemary Clooney and Danny Kaye. 

His best-loved songs include 'Swingin' On a Star', 'I'll Be Home for Christmas' and 'Pistol Packin' Mama'.

Bing's first wife Dixie Lee was also an actress

First wife Dixie Lee

The famous crooner first married in 1930, saying 'I do' to actress Dixie Lee. The couple were married for more than 20 years before her death in 1952. 

Born on 4 November 1909, Dixie passed away just days before her 43rd birthday. She was best known for movies like Love in Bloom, Redheads on Parade and Manhattan Love Song.

Kathryn and Bing were married for two decades

Marriage to Kathryn

Bing tied the knot again in 1957, wedding fellow actor and singer Kathryn Crosby. Kathryn was born on 25 November 1933 and appeared in films like The 7th Voyage of Sinbad and Operation Mad Ball.

The couple remained together until his death in 1977. Known as Kathryn Grant, the star and mother-of-three passed away on 20 September 2024.

Gary is the oldest of the seven siblings

Gary Crosby, 1933-1995

Born on 27 June 1933, Gary Crosby is the oldest of Bing Crosby's seven children. He explored his life as the child of a celebrity in the co-authored memoir Going My Own Way. 

Gary wed three times, tying the knot with Barbara Cosentino in 1960 before separating in 1981. He later married Andrea Claudio, and then Carol Crosby, and they remained together until his death in 1995.

Dennis Crosby was one half of Bing's twin sons with Dixie Lee

Dennis Crosby, 1934-1991

Dennis Crosby is one half of the twins welcomed by Bing and Dixie on 13 July 1934. Like his father, Dennis pursued a career in music and acting, credited on movies like Sergeants 3 and Duffy's Tavern

He married Pat Sheehan in 1958, separating in 1964. Dennis remarried the same year, tying the knot with Arleen Newman, who he remained married to for many years before the couple divorced shortly prior to his passing in 1991.

Phillip Crosby was the twin brother of Dennis Crosby

Phillip Crosby, 1934-2004

Dennis' brother Phillip appeared in Duffy's Tavern and Out of this World with his twin. He was married four times, wedding Peggy Crosby, Georgi Edwards, Mary Joyce Gabbard and Sandra Jo Drummond. 

Phillip passed in January 2004 following a heart attack. He was a father to five children and the last of Bing's children from his first marriage to pass away.

Lindsay was the youngest of Bing's four sons from his first marriage

Lindsay Crosby, 1938-1989

The youngest child Bing welcomed with his first wife, Lindsay Crosby was born on 5 January 1938. He acted in movies like The Glory Stompers, Bigfoot and The Mechanic.

He tragically passed on 11 December 1989 at the age of 51. Lindsay married three times and had divorced his third wife, Suzy Crosby, over a decade before he died.

Harry is the oldest child born to Bing and his second wife Kathryn

Harry Crosby, 1958–

Born on 8 August 1958, Harry Crosby is the oldest of Bing's three children he shared with his second wife Kathryn. The Friday the 13th actor now works as an investment banker. 

He married Mihaela Skobe in 2003 and is the father of two children. He is named after his father who was born Harry Lillis.

Mary is Bing's only daughter

Mary Crosby, 1959–

Mary Crosby was born on 14 September 1959. The actress has worked on projects like The Ice Pirates, Deadly Innocents and TV drama Dallas. 

She married Eb Lottimer in 1978, splitting up just over a decade later in 1989. She remarried in 1998, tying the knot with Mark Brodka. Mary is a mother of two.

Nathaniel Crosby is the youngest of the Crosby children

Nathaniel Crosby, 1961–

Nathaniel Crosby is the youngest of Bing's children from his second marriage, born on 29 October 1961. He co-wrote a memoir titled 18 Holes with Bing: Golf, Life, and Lessons from Dad which was published on his father's birthday in 2016.

He played in three US Masters, two British Opens and won the United States Amateur Championship in 1981.

Bing Crosby passed away on 14 October 1977

His final bow

Bing Crosby died at the age of 74 on 14 October 1977 following a sudden heart attack. He had just completed an 18-hole round of golf near Madrid when he collapsed. 

He is best remembered for his music legacy and remains a crooning favourite to this day.
