Nicole Kidman's ensemble for the 2026 Met Gala not only reflected the evening's theme but also appeared to nod to her current relationship status following her divorce from Keith Urban.
The actress graced the Metropolitan Museum of Art in custom Chanel by Matthieu Blazy. Styled by Jason Bolden, the deep-red gown featured a drop-waist silhouette with a sultry feathered trim. The dress was embellished with intricate sequins and boasted a high neckline with long sleeves. Nicole accessorized with an archival Omega Manhattan watch from 1982 that is crafted from 18-karat white and yellow gold with diamond accents.
While at the event, Nicole was asked by the press what story she wanted to tell with her look that night. "Red is vitality. It’s love, it’s romance. That's what we want, right," the actress replied.
Nicole and Keith married in June 2006 after first meeting in 2005, and welcomed two daughters while together, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret. In September of 2025, news suddenly broke that the couple had separated after nearly 20 years of marriage, with their divorce finalized just a few months later in January of 2026. "They will not speak badly of each other or the members of the family of the other parent," their marital dissolution agreement read. "They will encourage each child to continue to love the other parent and be comfortable in both families."
The star was joined by her eldest daughter at the Met Gala on May 4. Sunday Rose wore a pink Dior gown that featured a bandeau neckline with a form-fitting skirt. The garment was adorned with floral feathered appliques and styled with matching earrings.
Nicole served as one of the co-chairs at this year's event, alongside Beyoncé and Venus Williams. The Met Gala 2026 theme was Costume Art. The concept delves into the dynamic interplay between fashion and art, bringing together roughly 400 works from The Met’s expansive collection.
The event marked the first time that Venus served as a co-chair at the gala, following in her sister Serena Williams' footsteps, who hosted in 2013. Nicole previously took on the big role back in 2003 and 2005, while Beyonce served as a host in 2013.
A Met Gala co-chair plays a key role in planning and promoting the event, helping shape the guest list and speaking at the gala.
For last year's theme – "Superfine Tailoring" – Nicole opted for a sculptural, vintage-inspired Balenciaga look. The gown was originally designed in 1952. The black, strapless garment boasted a corseted waist and a picot-edged basque crafted from silk organza. Satin bows were adorned onto the bodice while the look was accessorized with a lace scarf, black spandex jersey gloves, and pointed-toe pumps.
