Long weekends were designed for bingeing classic films and shows, and on Good Friday, ITV has been airing dozens of the Carry On films, which amount to 31 in total.

The films often featured an ensemble cast, but had many of the same actors returning in different parts. One of the most prolific of these was Peter Butterworth, who appeared in 16 of the franchise's films, including Carry On Abroad, Carry On Screaming! and Carry On Emmannuelle.

The actor, who passed away at the age of 63 in 1979, was also known for The Spider's Web, Doctor Who, Kill or Cure, Don't Lose Your Head and The First Great Train Robbery.

Away from his life of fame, Peter found love with impressionist and actress Janet Brown. The couple welcomed two children, a son named Tyler, who became a famous actor, and a daughter, named Emma, who sadly died at the age of 34 back in 1996.

Famous wife Janet Brown

Janet rose to fame in the late 1940s when she made her film debut in Floodtide. The star soon started racking up appearances in the likes of Folly To Be Wise, A Replica Luxury Handbag of Your Own, Wombling Free and the James Bond film For Your Eyes Only.

However, it was following the election of Margaret Thatcher as leader of the Conservative Party in 1975 that Janet's career shifted, as she became known for her impersonations of the politician. She appeared in the likes of The News Huddlines and The Mike Yarwood Show, where she played the 'Iron Lady'.

Her impressions won the approval of Margaret, and Janet's son, Tyler, revealed that the former Prime Minister had previously written to his mother. Speaking in 2022 to the Northern Echo, he said: "I have letters from Mrs Thatcher to mum which I read out – they reveal a respectful and admiring friendship, which reveal a surprisingly humorous side to Mrs T at times."

She and Peter had a whirlwind romance, marrying in 1946, the same year that they met. In the 1950s, Janet appeared in comedy series How Do You View?, alongside her husband. The couple also appeared together on-screen in the 1972 film Bless This House.

Famous son Tyler Butterworth

Peter and Janet's son Tyler followed in his parents' footsteps by becoming an actor. The 67-year-old made his debut in the industry as a child actor, appearing in Live Now – Pay Later. The star has also appeared in Casualty, Chance in a Million, Replica Luxury Handbag to Roost, Birds of a Feather, The Bill and Last of the Summer Wine.

His biggest role was in the sci-fi show Mike & Angelo, which ran between 1989 and 2000, where he played Angelo, an alien from the planet Ptarg who was able to walk on ceilings.

In 1998, the actor married Janet Dibley, an actress who has appeared in EastEnders, Doctors and The Two of Us.

Tyler is incredibly proud of his parents' careers, and back in 2019, he spoke for Peter Butterworth: The Untold Story, a stage show that explored his father's acting career, as well as his time as a prisoner of war during World War II.
