Sarah Ferguson could give Waldo a run for his money. Unlike the striped-shirt book character who hides in plain sight, the former Duchess of York has been flying under the radar, even before her ex-husband Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's arrest. So, where is Sarah?
"The thing with Sarah though is if she wanted to be seen, she would be," The Sun's Royal Editor Matt Wilkinson said on HELLO!'s A Right Royal podcast. "It's amazing that you can as famous as you are, Sarah Ferguson, you can find a way to hide away."
And of course "there are certainly ways to avoid" being photographed, as HELLO!'s own Emily Nash pointed out.
Last public appearance
Sarah was last photographed on December 12, 2025 as she arrived at St James's Palace for the christening of her granddaughter Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi. She was seen arriving in the backseat of a car, marking her first appearance since her ex-husband was stripped of his titles and honours and since it was revealed that she had apologized to Jeffrey Epstein in 2011 and called him a "supreme friend".
Prior to Athena's christening, Sarah and Andrew were last publicly seen at the Duchess of Kent's funeral on September 16.
Flying under the radar
In the wake of published correspondence between her and Jeffrey Epstein, and her ex's arrest, Sarah has continued to lie low, though there have been reports of her whereabouts. "She went to Northern Ireland. She went to a spa there. She went to Verbier. She stayed in a chalet lent to her by Paddy McNally, who's an old friend," Matt said on HELLO!'s A Right Royal podcast.
It's been reported that Sarah spent time at the Paracelsus Recovery Clinic in Zurich, Switzerland. She's previously described the clinic as a "safe harbor in the storms of life" and a "safe haven," where she can "feel not judge". The mom of two is believed to have arrived at the clinic after Christmas and left at the end of January.
It was then claimed in late February that Sarah had been spotted at Ballyliffin Lodge & Spa in Donegal, Ireland. Back in in 2024, she shared a TikTok from a beach in Donegal saying: "Sometimes when I find things sometimes overwhelming, I just try and take myself off to the most beautiful, wonderful blast of fresh air, looking at the ocean, looking at the beach, looking at the shells. It's great to be in the wind and just getting fresh air on my face. Thank you Donegal!"
Goodbye Royal Lodge
Where exactly she'll be calling home now remains to be seen. In early February, Andrew moved out of his and Sarah's shared home, Royal Lodge. Last year, after the disgraced former Duke was served formal notice to surrender the lease to the property, it was understood that his ex-wife would be making her own living arrangements. A source told HELLO! in December that Sarah would not be joining her ex when he moved to Norfolk.
"She has stood by him all these years but is now ready to spread her wings," the source said. "She won't be moving in with him to the new house on the Sandringham Estate. She won't be moving into Beatrice's Cotswolds home though. Eugenie's home in Portugal is a contender while she finds somewhere."
Though the latter doesn't appear to be an option anymore. The Daily Mail reported on March 22 that Jack Brooksbank is refusing to allow his mother-in-law to move in with them. Princess Eugenie and her husband are said to be "resisting any suggestion from her mother that she should come and live with them" because they "don't want the responsibility of looking after her at the moment".
Scandal aftermath
Sarah has lost more than just her courtesy title due to Andrew's association with Jeffrey Epstein, as well as her own friendship with the convicted sex offender. She's been dropped as patron of multiple charities, including Julia's House, a children's hospice in Corfe Mullen, The Natasha Allergy Research Foundation, Prevent Breast Cancer, the Children's Literacy Charity and the British Heart Foundation. Days after the U.S. Department of Justice released a new batch of Epstein documents in late January, Sarah's charity, Sarah's Trust, announced that it would be closing for the foreseeable future.
The former Duchess, who has released numerous books over the years, has reportedly also faced a "string of rejections," with publishing houses in the United States rejecting a pitch from her to write a memoir. According to the Sunday Express, it seems nobody is "remotely interested in being seen to be enabling her to cash-in on the Epstein scandal".
Although there was a report of a reality show. On March 21, the Daily Mail reported that Sarah was in talks to clone the late Queen's beloved corgis, Muick and Sandy, for a reality show. However a representative for Sarah has since confirmed that she declined the offer, telling PEOPLE that she "regularly receives varied TV offers and proposals — often for reality shows which she always declines" and "declined the proposal" regarding a "reality TV show involving the late Queen's corgis".
"She received the proposal following some initial conversations with Halcyon media to discuss a potential programme on dogs generally," the rep added, noting that "conversations ended following her declining the opportunity suggested".
Despite all the reports, Sarah, for now, is staying out of the spotlight... and keeping everyone guessing.
