Pedro Pascal had fans doing a double-take after he debuted a dramatic new look at the 98th Academy Awards on March 15.
The Mandalorian star has been known for his signature mustache since his breakout role in the series Narcos, but he appeared clean-shaven on Sunday when he arrived at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
Pedro looked dapper in Chanel, wearing a white long-sleeve button-up with a large flower embellishment on the chest, a pair of high-waisted black pants, and thin silver-rimmed glasses.
However, without his facial hair, he soon went viral on social media with fans claiming he looks like a completely "different person."
One commented on Pedro's transformation: "He's a whole diff person clean shaven, like it's mind-blowing!!" A second said: "i had to zoom in to see if that was him fr omg."
Others claimed that Pedro looks younger than his 50 years after shaving off his mustache. "How is he aging backwards? He looks younger than he did 10 years ago," one wrote.
Another added: "HE LOOKS SO YOUNG WITHOUT THE MUSTACHE WHATT," and someone else wrote: "Clean shaven Pedro is so back."
Pedro's new look comes as a surprise, as he said as recently as July 2025 that he would never go clean-shaven because he looks "awful" without facial hair.
"I grow such [expletive] facial hair, but if I were to shave it all off… I really look very [awful]. Strongly disagree with a clean-shaven me," he told LADbible at the time.
The actor, who presented the awards for Best Production to Frankenstein and Best Visual to Avatar: Fire and Ash, added that he wouldn't even go facial-hair-free for a role unless it was "necessary" after 2020's Wonder Woman 1984.
He added: "In Wonder Woman 1984, I was so appalled by the way I look. I loved the movie, but I was so appalled by the way that I looked that I never have gone back unless it were completely necessary."
Pedro's clean-shaven look could be for an upcoming role, then, as he is slated to appear in The Mandalorian and Grogu, Avengers: Doomsday, Behemoth! and De Noche.
He also addressed the subject of his mustache in an interview with Wired in 2019. He said: "People are like, 'Don't ever get rid of your mustache. You look like my grandmother without it.'"
Meanwhile, this year's Oscars marked the sixth time there has been a tie for an award in the history of the Academy Awards.
Both The Singers and Two People Exchanging Saliva picked up the award for Best Short Action Film, which was awarded by comedian and actor Kumail Nanjiani.
"It's a tie, I'm not joking, it's actually a tie," he declared. Making light of the curveball, Kumail continued: "Everyone calm down, we're going to get through this, focus up."
He added: "Ironic that the short film Oscar's going to take twice as long."
The last tie occurred over 10 years ago in 2013, when Skyfall and Zero Dark Thirty jointly won for Best Sound Editing.
