Anna Wintour may be one of the most powerful figures in fashion after serving as US Vogue's editor-in-chief for 37 years, but to her two children, she's always been 'mom.'

The 76-year-old, now the global editorial director of Vogue and chief content officer for Condé Nast, shares son Charles and daughter Bee with her first ex-husband, child psychiatrist David Shaffer, whom she was married to from 1984 to 1999.

Anna, who has chaired the Met Gala since 1995, prefers to keep her private life to herself, but she admitted recently that she was "relentless" about spending time with her kids.

"I was relentless about going to the games and turning up at the parent-teacher meetings, being there when it was important," she told Vogue last month. "I felt like Vogue could always wait and that it's okay to be a busy mother. You make it work."

"I try to instill in my children and my grandchildren that it's family that counts and family who will give you love and support," she added. "If you have that, everything else will be fine."

Charles was born in July 1985 and prefers to lead a private life outside of the spotlight, although he has made appearances alongside his mom at the Met Gala in the past.

Instead of a career in fashion, Charles followed in his dad's footsteps, becoming a psychiatrist after earning his Doctor of Medicine degree with a specialization in psychiatry from Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons in 2016.

Before his stint at Columbia, Charles attended Oxford University, where he met his wife, Elizabeth. In 2014, the couple married at his mom's weekend home in Mastic Beach, New York.

They welcomed their first child, daughter Caroline, in March 2017, and their second daughter, Ella Rose, in 2019.

The youngest of Anna's two children is her daughter Bee (née Katherine), who was born in July 1987.

Like her brother, Bee forged a career outside of the fashion industry after saying she's "staying far away from Vogue" following her graduation from Columbia.

Instead, Bee works in the entertainment industry and is a former segment producer at Late Night with Seth Meyers. She now works as a Broadway producer on shows including The Wiz, Parade, and The Last Five Years.

In July 2018, she married film director and photographer Francesco Carrozzini, son of the late Vogue Italia's editor-in-chief, Franca Sozzani, at her mom's home in Mastic, New York.

The couple welcomed their son, Oliver Sozzani, in October 2021, announcing his birth on Instagram the following month alongside three sweet photos.

Grandkids

In an April 2026 feature for Vogue, Anna revealed that she now has four grandchildren, although she didn't share if it was Charles or Bee who welcomed another child.

"I only have four [grandkids], and I have four step-grandchildren that grew up all around us," she said. "Being a mother when you have the jobs we have — you have to make the time."

In an interview with Vogue in 2022 in which she answered 73 questions, Anna revealed that instead of grandma, her grandkids call her "Anna."
